Hello to anyone who actually reads this. Photography has been a passion of mine since 1982. I started shooting digitally with a Nikon SLR in September 2009, although some (comparatively few) photos here were taken with various point and shoot types, and even phones. I love photographing flowers and plants in nature, as well as in cultivation. I also love to photograph scenery as well as animals when opportunities arise.

I have been interested in growing plants since I was young, but I started with orchids when I was sixteen, and the species orchids became my favorites. I also grow some succulents (mostly Haworthia), ball cacti, insectivorous plants, and some bromeliads and gesneriads.

I've co-authored some plant books with my friend Mary Gerritsen, and they are "Masdevallia, Gems of the Orchid World", "Calochortus, Mariposa Lilies and their Relatives", "A Compendium of Miniature Orchid Species", "The American Orchid Society Guide to Orchids and their Culture", and now a four volume, second edition of "A Compendium of Miniature Orchid Species".

I have found people on Flickr can be very helpful. I particularly enjoy help given with identifications, and helping if I can with theirs. I very much enjoy the beautiful work of the artists here too!
