When I was 7 my mother took me into The Spellbound Bead Co to make a necklace. I remember the pride I felt leaving the shop wearing something that I’d made, that I’d designed, that meant something to me. It’s not just finished items of jewellery that I love - it’s the ideas behind them, the inspirations, the stories that lead to a three dimensional translation of the designers thoughts. Jewellery to me isn’t just the finished object, although that in itself is usually the initial attraction, it’s a window into the designer’s soul, life and personality.

I ended up working for the bead shop for four years, selling beads and components to make jewellery and teaching techniques to make jewellery. Through this I learnt a lot of skills, both in practical making and designing and also in customer service and teamwork. I love art with a passion and to me jewellery is just an extension of this, a way to wear art and truly express who we are.

I‘m currently in my 2nd year of a Jewellery and Silversmithing degree at the University of Edinburgh.
