I've been a photographer since about the age of 7 and the owner of The LightRoom, a printing studio for photographers and other artists since 1975.

Over that time span I've drawn to many different subjects for my camera, but landscapes have long been my primary interest.

Although I enjoy the work of many photographers whose images are heavily adjusted to increase their dramatic effect, and occasionally use these techniques myself, most of my landscape work is relatively straightforward and I rely on the land's innate beauty to wow the viewer.

Black and white printing, by it's nature, is abstract to begin with (unless you're color blind!) so I feel much freer to heighten the drama with contrast and exposure adjustments to mold the mood I'm after.

Some picture sets here refer to specific areas or hiking trips (Humphreys Basin 9/2009) while others are a collection along a theme (Deserts, The Coast) and inevitably, a few pictures fit in several places as well as a set of Miscellaneous. Enjoy the pictures and please comment freely, or contact me for further information. Don't forget to look at The LightRoom website if you are interested in having your own images printed.

Currently I'm shooting with a Canon 5D and primarily a 24-105mm L zoom. My 70-200mm zoom goes along on day hikes, but not when I'm backpacking. Ditto my Bogen tripod. I'm a big fan of the Rotation 360 camera backpack when day hiking. I scan older film on an Imacon 848 scanner and print using archival pigment inks on acid free paper using Canon and Epson printers.
