"Quand tu fais un portrait, ce n'est pas toi tout seul qui prend la photo..
La personne t'offre la photo" ~ Sebastião Salgado
"The camera can photograph thought" ~Dirk Bogarde
I stated photography not long ago (a month ago from today the 20th August 2011) and ever since I have been plunged into this new world of art.
Photography for me is freezing a moment in time and space. A moment which cannot be perceived by the naked eye. This moment is foreseen by the photographer and it is his job to best capture it before it fades away as a lost memory.
"A good snapshot stops a moment from running away." ~Eudora Welty
"A photograph is worth a thousand words." Quote sometimes attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte who said "Un bon croquis vaut mieux qu'un long discours," My aim is to be able to best express all those feelings in a single picture.
At the time I'm writing this description I am still an amateur. I still run around with a Canon T3 18-55mm f/3,5-5,6.
I strive to gain the ability to take the pictures the way I see them to be. And so I joined this community to learn from each and every one of you.
Thank you for creating such a beautiful community.

It has been a year since I wrote this article and I thought I'd add a little to it.
Photography has since taken a big part of my life. I started saving to buy lenses: got the 18-135 f/3.5-5.0 to replace my 18-55mm and also the 85mm f/1,8 (which I particularly loved) and really got into street photography. Mostly portraits of people roaming about. I guess landscape photography should have kicked in too but I haven't really left Montreal too much.
The most peculiar event happened to me recently: Last june I decided to upgrade my camera and went for the Canon EOS 7D, also replaced my 18-135mm lens with the 24-105mm f/4L lens. The combination was amazing and I was simply in love with it. Last July as I was having a drink after a birthday party, now I cannot stress how much attentive I am towards my belongings but to cut a long ass story short, it got stolen, my whole bag which had both lenses and the 7D. After that my life fell apart (well actually I fell off my bike a week later and broke my collar bone.. but u get the idea).
2 weeks ago we decided to give homeowner insurance a try and 5 days ago we got the ever epic response back: they are replacing everything! I'm getting back in cash the price of all the lost equipment brand new.
Since I have been saving to buy a new camera I am combining both capitals together to buy a Canon 5D Mark III with both stolen lenses.
I guess sometimes being part of the system pays off mmh?
Thanks for reading..
