For Nana, photography is in her blood. Her dad is in the camera business, and she's always been around them. The first thing you notice about Nana is a certain sharpness about her. She never hesitates when taking a shot. She simply sees what she wants, and goes after it. For someone like me, who has to spend some time deliberating before taking a shot, it can be quite disarming. It's almost like her camera is an extension of her body. But those same traits are what make her so much fun to be around. She never hesitates about commiting to a dicision, even if it's wrong, ha! But thankfully that's rarely the case. More usual will be a grand adventure of some kind. Whether darting through the back alleys of Tokyo, or tracking through the country side in search of tanuki, Nana is sure to guide you to your destination intact, yet seeing the world in a new way. Make the trip--it's a good place to be.

I've only been aware of Nana for a short time now, but it's already clear, from her close following and more importantly from her photographs, that she is something special. Many of the people here testify to being 'in love with' nana's work, which identifies the intimate nature of her images. Certainly, what I 'love' most is the clarity with which she presents her subject to the viewer, and the way she manages to go beyond a simple hunt for the aesthetic, for the 'cool' that so many photographers, particularly young ones, try to capture; instead nana gives the viewer something that they can fall in love with.

Nanako's a sweet flickr friend of mine. There's something about her fotos, specifically her polas, that make me feel good inside, they make me smile. A lot of young photographers her age, especially here in the U.S can't wait to get their hands on digital cameras, but not Nana, she's all about film. With the sophisticated, stylish and really artistic style of photography she possess at her age, you know for a fact her photography's going to take her somewhere in the future. Plus I don't know anyone her age who uses a Hassy, that's just way too cool. It'd be a privilege if I get to hang out with her and go photographing in the future. If only San Francisco wasn't thousands of miles away from Japan. >__<
