HISTORY
Established in 2004
Many years ago, the spot where Rigolo Café is located was a German bakery called Fantasia. The bakery was very popular with the locals and was open for many years. Old-timers in the neighborhood still remember it fondly to this day. When Fantasia closed, the space was taken over by Eppler's Bakery, which had its following but was never as popular as Fantasia had been. Finally, in 2004, the space was completely renovated for the opening of Rigolo. The office-style drop ceilings were ripped out to create the open ceiling with rafters that exists today. The sky light, slanted walls and glass frontage with patio were added during the project, creating the current open, modern and welcoming space. We hope to be here for many, many more years, thanks to our loyal, repeat customers.
MEET THE OWNER: Douglas M.
Doug and his wife Laura decided to open Rigolo when they got tired of looking for child-friendly places to eat in SF. The idea was to create a family restaurant that offered reasonably priced, healthy, home-made meals, in a clean, safe and fun environment for kids. They also wanted to create a positive workplace for employees. To foster long-term employees, they began offering health insurance to employees the very first year they opened. Doug and Laura are constantly striving to make improvements and to be good members of the local community. They hope to open another Rigolo some time in the future.
