Hello to my visitors. My Flickr photoblog is part gallery and part archive. Take the time to visit some of my sets and get to know my eye better. I was the President of the Western Photographic Historical Society in 2008, and a co-presenter at the Photohistory XIII meeting in 2006 at the George Eastman House in Rochester, NY. I am also a lifetime member of the Puget Sound Photographic Collectors Society. I collect cameras, photographica and images. I contribute most of my camera images to Camera-wiki. I write, and enjoy researching articles on photohistory. I'm also the Admin for a flickr group that I've started back in 2008 called "Photo Trouvée" dedicated to found and vintage photos. I'm also the Admin for a new flickr group devoted to American Modernist Walter Dorwin Teague (1883-1960) at: www.flickr.com/groups/walterdorwinteague/. I like my coffee with cream and sugar. Photographer. Graphic artist. MC rider. Brother. Son. Ex-Husband. Father. Grandfather. Good friend. Please DO NOT POST flashing awards, glittery icons, parasitic links etc.. If you are a blank faced avatar, have no original photos to share, or are too creepy I will NOT add you as a friend or contact. Essentially I am a retired photographer, but if you are interested in buying a print - contact me through my flickr mail or hotmail. All image rights reserved by Rick Soloway.

I awoke at just about 4am and reached for my iPad, which I often do these days with chemo. I checked my emails before going on to the scrabble game - it was my turn and I was hopelessly behind my wife, Elisebetta. Then I saw an email from Flickr from someone named ricksoloway. Being an old irritable guy, I almost clicked Delete but for some reason I went on to see who this guy was. An hour and a half and about 100 pages later, I got up to make coffee and take in a new day. The images, photographs, old cameras, motorcycles, and on and on were, and I don't use this word loosely, simply inspiring. BTW, my name is David Tomei and I live in a little mountain village called Genazzano though I'm originally from far away Buffalo. Across the piazza is a park and in that park with the ruins of a late Roman aqueduct, are also the ruins of the villa of Antoninus Pius, or my nom de plum Tony Pio. My best regards to Rick and wait 'till you see my new Radix in the original silk screened metal box. Whoa...

I especially appreciate Rick's eye for vintage images as he seems to have a unique gift for separating the wheat from the chaff.

I have joined Flickr and several ''Photographica'' Groups just a few months ago but in such a short period of time I had the chance to ''meet'' in this wide, wide community very nice people, fantastic photographers, classic cameras lovers and collectors. Rick is in this group of ''friends'' one of my favourites. He has a great knowledge of classic cameras, being collector himself, he is a very very good photographer (not only in his Classic Cameras sections) and in more than one occasion I have been influenced in my choices, as far as cameras collection is concerned, just admiring some of Rick's shots in his super antique cameras galleries. So I have thought to write this short 'testimonial' for Rick, who has already a lot of friends and fans here, to thank him because through his galleries, his articles and nice suggestions I have improved for sure my knowledges, my collection and increased my passion for these fantastic, lovely ''old cameras''. Thanks Rick!!!!!

Cheers Rick!

This is a place I come to get raw energy to be inspired and creative. I like the bold colors and subjects of his illustrations and the way he combines symbols, makes use of contrast and effective imagery to create a photograph that will stop you in your tracks to analize it. That is a great skill!

Rick sees things, that others don't see and wouldn't notice. His eyes and camera capture images that I take for granted. His inventiveness in creating new images are super!
