I think flickr is a great community and I'm delighted to have met so many wonderful people here and I look forward to meeting more.
I've tried to get into the habit of tagging my images in case you're interested in seeing what camera and lens did what.
Notes on flickr's social tools
I'm always delighted and flattered when people comment on my photography and I try my best to acknowledge all comments. However, I don't do quid-pro-quo commenting. I comment on things I see and like. I don't comment on other people's work just because they comment on mine. I think that cheapens the culture of commenting and is in effect, gaming the system.
If you fav one of my images or add me as a contact but have no images available to me this to me seems to defeat the purpose of flickr which is sharing. I block people who do this, especially when they're faving yoga pictures which are generally of attractive women. Sorry guys, these women are my friends.
I choose my contacts carefully. I'm flattered and delighted if you want to track my flickr photostream and make me a contact, however, I don't do quid-pro-quo contacts either. Many are phishing for thousands of contacts and since I track my close contacts daily, I don't want too much to look at.
Comments with dancing icons
As above, I'm delighted you like my work enough to comment on it but please consider not putting iconography in my comment threads, I find it distracting and frankly, I find many of the trophies and dancing cats in bad taste. I'm totally flattered that you find my work worthy of such attention, but I'd prefer it in text if possible. Thank you for considering this.
Competition
I don't do competitions, period. I don't join competitive groups and I hope I never feel the need to use flickr toys to post an array of whatever images of mine have "made" Explore. In my mind, that's not the spirit of photography nor should it be the spirit of flickr. More about that here.
I humbly put work out for others to look at, am always delighted when something I made is appreciated and even liked by others and that's enough for me. The spirit of my photographic process and competition just do not mix. So, if you invite me to a competitive group and I don't respond, it's not that I don't appreciate the attention, I do, it's just that I attempt to avoid competition.
My weblog, which discusses photography among other things is here: Richard's Notes.
Thank you for reading this rambling bio, I wish you the best in your photography and on Flickr.

Richard is one of the first i got to know on flickr. Surely i can vouch for the fact that he will be one of the people who will make you think "What will Richard think? Will he like this? What would his comments be?" when you look at a nice piece of art work or think you have a nice image posted on flickr. The reason is very simple. Apart from the already established fact that Richard is extremely kind and helpful with sharing his high level understanding of photography its the kind of personalized response and attention to detail one will notice when you have a conversation with him. Over the period of years, i'm delighted to say not only have i found a flickr buddy but a wonderful friend in him. No matter who cares or remembers you will find Richard's wonderful posters & greeting cards in the mail that will put a big smile across your face and make you feel wanted and loved, most importantly special. As i continue to be the astonished audience that i always am every-time i look at a new picture he uploads on flickr or the things he shares via email & blog i will say my admiration, respect and love is completely on another level. If you want to know good what photography is, in plain simple terms and learn from a splendid example, you've gotta have Richard on your RSS feeds. I think its a fantastic head start.

First of all, thank you Richard, for helping me with my own photo-ing. You really seem to care & take the time to help people who admire your talents & I am one of those people. I get a little smile every time one of your photos shows up on my contacts page.....I love looking, reading the caption, going to properties to see just what you did, then looking again! Your photos are lots of times just the everyday stuff around you but it opens up a whole new world for me & gives me the nudge I need to try it myself. Several of my inside playing-around shots come from looking at your salt & pepper shakers! Someday I would love to meet you & Ann cuz I bet you are even better in person. Stay happy & focused......& thanks for being a flickr friend. -Kay

I think he represents all the good things Flickr is about. We all are very priviledged to have him here. Lot's of kindness, lot's of wisdom.

Richard and I have a common interest beyond photography. He and I are both drummers and when I saw one of his photos of a jazz musician, I had to make contact. Subsequently, Richard has proven himself to be a very knowledgeable resource about all things photographic and even more importantly, he’s proven to be a very sharing individual. He has spent his time advising me on several occasions, and for this I am grateful. Richard’s photography is first rate and as much as I enjoy looking at his pictures, I appreciate reading his captions as they communicate much of who Richard is. I find that he really likes to approach things head on, investing himself wholly into those things which intrigue him. I also see that Richard genuinely appreciates life and good friends and most importantly, loves his mother. To me Richard represents Flickr at it's best.
