It might be hard to believe looking at my photostream, but I’m actually a headshot photographer! So why all the ambulances? It’s a passion I have had ever since I went to college in Devon many years ago.

I grew up in Yorkshire and our ambulances had two blue lights on the roof. The only light bars I had seen had been on American TV shows. In Devon, I found the ambulances had lightbars and so did the police. I was fascinated. According to my mum, I’ve always been fascinated by flashing lights!

Attracted by the lights I started to take more of an interest in the vehicles and realised the many different types of vehicles - and lights - that existed and I started photographing them. Initially all emergency services and then restricting it to ambulances and mountain rescue. Why? That linked into my other two passions of first aid and the outdoors.

Working in the countryside and volunteering for the British Red Cross and Bathgate Community First Responders has given me the opportunity to see things many people wouldn’t. Many of them have been photographed and here on Flickr is where I showcase them.

So, if you want to see my headshot work then head to my website or find me on the social’s @rkabworks. If you want to see everything else I’ve photographed then you’re in the right place here.

Enjoy!
