I love Wildlife and Bird photography. I love the challenge of stalking up as close as you possibly can, without disturbing, and the technical challenge of getting an interesting behavior shot composed, focused, exposed ~just right.
There's a lot of luck involved with getting in front a great subject at the right time in the right place, (oh yeah, in great light, too!) but I believe you also make your own luck. The more you get out of the house before dawn, the better chance of getting a "keeper" shot of one of nature's wonders.
Took an adult ed class in my community and learned about the technical side and composition, techniques to use with a digital SLR. I highly recommend a class like this. 10 weeks long, with photography-homework assignments. Can't believe what I learned for under $200.
Get out every chance I get!
I'm still such a novice! My keeper ratio is like 1 out of 500! I strive to get better at this new hobby of mine, and am inspired to get shots like some of the amazingly talented shooters on Flickr.
Disclaimer: I crop most photos and am shooting in RAW now, so I also tweak using Canon's DPP. I never make composites or add or remove objects though. Warning, once you go RAW, you never go back!
Thanks for viewing my photo-stream.
