What can I tell about Renée’s photos which is not already visible in them – if you look closely enough? English is not my first language, but I use it because most people on flickr and elsewhere understand it. I’ll not write a poem in English, because it would sound flat, and the images wouldn’t be any good. Renée’s photos, though, invite you to write poems, because they are made of the same stuff. They show the poetry of the everyday world and of existence. A poem is not a thing of beauty nor a joy forever. Nor is a photo. Renée’s photos show beauty and ugliness and almost everything in between. They ask you to think about the traces of our behavior, of our desires, of our emotions, of our history. They also ask you to imagine future traces. You can see the problems of the world we live in, without any solutions. This is a photography of questions without any answers. Or better still: the question is the answer, the problem is the solution. And love. Most of Renées photo’s are about love, about tenderness, about compassion. As a comment on one of her photos in particular I wrote this: “The essence and sensualitey of red shoes, as a myth, and adventure and reality. How they can disturb a life, give fire but also bring stillness, satisfaction to an existence. And to compensate this turbulence of symbols and colours there's the comfort of the green green grass of home. The grass growing like it always did.” There’s this essence, this sensuality in almost every of Renée’s photos. They may look simple but they are really adventurous, like myths, like great poems. And they always make you want to go home, but you know you just can’t."
