Je suis ébloui !!! I am dazzled !!!
Rena offers her art in a most unassuming way. She posts her pictures and says hello to everybody, as if people like her and art like hers are perfectly ordinary. She leaves the surprise of revelation completely in your hands, but she puts it there, and it's wondrous. I follow Rena's work with joy. I love the way sh… Read more

She leaves the surprise of revelation completely in your hands, but she puts it there, and it's wondrous. I follow Rena's work with joy. I love the way she teases reality, as if reality is her best friend and she is close enough to it to introduce us to it, to laugh at it, and to yell at it. I feel lucky to count this woman as my friend. She is something great.

I don't know if you believe in reincarnation - I'm don't know if I do - but I do know that I checked a biography of Henri Cartier-Bresson when I found Rena's photos! I love just following Rena around - through her camera. We get a fresh and vibrant view of American city life in all its forms. Rena isn't just "street photographer" she is a teller of stories and recorder of our times, an artist who paints with light and shadow. A visit to her photostream is like a personal guided tour of New York with someone who knows and understands its nuances. Her photos are alive. They are real and Rena always finds the perfect way to let us feel the pulse of the place and - more importantly - to come to know its people. I can (and often do) spend hours prowling the boroughs of New York without ever leaving my house. Rena will fast become one of your favorite photogrphers, too.

Renata has been a regular contact of mine for several months now, but it was destiny, as Minkel so appropriately put it, that led us to her in person on a chilly February day in New York City's Washington Square Park. The meeting turned into a delightful twilight photo walk where I quickly learned that like so many individuals who use the camera to express themselves creatively, Renata is an artist, as well as a photographer. She shoots film first and supplements it with digital. She shoots black and white film, and she processes it herself. Her camera, a Leica, is manual, and she works it with the ease of a point and shoot. Renata is old skool. She is the kind of photographer who can teach other photographers a thing or two about photography. What I saw that day was an active imagination, constantly searching for the "decisive moment" that all street photographers look to capture on each outing. Thoroughly charming and pleasant, and now someone I refer to as a friend. Keep up the great work, Rena!
