This is not a list of all the butterflies I encountered on the trips. I have tried to find the correct name for the butterflies; lycaenids and satyrs often leave me confused. For most moths, caterpillars, beetles, spiders and other insects I am completely unable to cope with. Photos other than butterflies you will find at the end of the albums.

After sort of retirement from science and teaching microbiology several years ago I discovered macrophotography. I was not aware of the fact that it is so difficult to produce a halfway decent photograph of a butterfly - a long, an infinitely long learning process. Every day in nature is like a new exhibition with changing pictures. Memories of my childhood where every meadow was covered with colorful flowers and uncountable butterflies reminds me of the species poverty we experience today in many places.
Thanks go to Adrian Hoskins who organized many of the trips opening up new paradises, and to David Geale who accompanied many trips in South America helping to get the speciation nailed down, and to all the people who were great company during all these enterprises.
