2025 - present
More of the images are now coming from items found in nature. The flow of energy through a photograph often follows thin lines and arcs rather than the wider, more open surfaces of earlier images.
The goal is still to explore this sense of flow. It is difficult to see and rewarding to discover.
As before, exposure, colour, orientation and proportion are often changed. AI, artificial intelligence, is never used.
2020-2025 Away
2006-2020
I like to explore the energy we perceive in images. Not the obvious wave-crashing-on-the-shore kind, but the more subtle energy that flows across smooth surfaces, along the edges of lines and curves, pooling where they meet, or spreading thinly through the voids. Repeated elements and patterns set up rhythms that begin to feel like a dance. Textures create turbulence. Openings become invitations.
This is hard to see (for me at least) when an image contains easily identified objects so I avoid them. Long, quiet moments with shapes the mind does not know seem to be the best way to find this energy. And once found, it is easier to discover in other images.
Most of the subjects in this collection have been found, usually in public places. Exposure, colour, orientation and proportion are often changed. I like to think of the world as the artist, and myself as a fortunate editor with almost unlimited freedom.
AI, artificial intelligence, is never used.
If you follow me and I do not follow you too, it's only because I can't keep up with the contacts I have already. I will try to visit your site as often as possible. I wish I had more time for flickr.
