I have, as far as I am aware no signature style. I just like imagery -- novel, provocative, spontaneous, creative, unusual, incongruous or whatever for my entertainment and hopefully others. If I see someone's work that I like, I may attempt to do something similar just to learn.
Kodak Brownie was my first camera. Then my folks 35mm Kodak which I eventually paired with a Lunar Pro light meter. Got a few Polaroids along the way as presents. Worked as a field and lab assistant for an architectural photographer for six months. Spending all day in a darkroom repetitively dodging and burning prints ruined my interest in photography for some time. Bought a second hand Pentax K1000 with bulk loaded slide film in my mid twenties. Bought a second hand 4x5 Speed Graphic with Polaroid back. Again, chemistry did not last long between shooting and money was an issue. Working as a university illustrator/publication designer I often photographed stuff as a reference for drawings. Finally, I got a job working for a VA medical center, medical media department where for several years before retirement I photographed veterans' hard to heal wounds and dermatological issues among other things. Along the way I bought another Kodak, the first 300dpi digital for less than $300. It was very disappointing. I then got a Sony Cyber Shot W1 then W5 with a Carl Zeiss lens and things have never been the same. I still use the W5 as well as a Nikon D-90 like the one I used at the VA but with the kit 18-105 lens. I use an iPhone, bought several more Nikon lenses and a couple of Nikon SB-700s speed lights but have not done much with the speed lights yet. I've been painting more lately and own a perfectly adequate iPhone.
I spend a lot of time looking at photos. I also spend too much time in post-production, but I lose myself in it. I also like to draw and paint. More recently I have become more of a painter and have included more of that work on this site. Hope you find some of my work entertaining and/or interesting. By the way, I now continue to enjoy iPhone technology -- remarkable and so convenient. I use it a lot nowadays.
You might ask, "why this obsession with alligators"? I find the 24 species of crocodilian interesting, and I find them all significant environmentally as all are considered threatened worldwide. My great grate grandmother was artistic and so was my grandfather, mother, uncle and my cousin. There must be something genetic. However, we are all quite different in our artistic expression. As a child I painted the mortar on the stone foundation of our home and caught hell for it. I was not encouraged artistically as I was a terrible student which scared my family and their hope for my future prospects. But I never quit. I really liked the fact that my fellow students in school either really liked what I was drawing or hated or hated it. So, my art and photography has always been kind of juvenile, disturbing or humorous depending on your perspective. This Flickr site was set up principally just for the fun of it. I have never sold a photo and only four or five paintings. Sometimes I get "faves" but, my stats etcetera are kind of meager, but as long as I'm having fun it really does not matter. Recently because of the pandemic I have had enough time to sort through quite a bit of my very old work which was mostly BIC and later illustrator ball point pen throughout my formative years. Money was always an issue. But, 36 years of marriage to very supportive and capable woman, so I find myself in a dream come true!! My only complaint with this site is the inability to rearrange the images into a more accurate chronology. One more thing, I am completely remis for not including in my descriptions the date of completion and dimensions of my paintings/drawings One of these days I hope to take on that task.
