A photographer challenged by everything.. Be it a rusted can of spilled paint, or an ordinary street scene, a rustic barn or the wonders of weather, the decrepitude of an unused, misused and/or abused dwelling to new construction, or people , Rick wrangles the subject to his own uses. Following his artistic progressions, one sees that he has an insatiable need to master his subjects. And after mastering, there's an apparent further need to make them his own. And make them his own, he does. Like nobody's business, Rick turns a night shot of the ordinary into the extraordinary. It's fun to watch and wonder and try guessing where he's going next. Rick, a master of post-production, takes a great shot, but if it's not great enough, one can tell he'll not sleep until it's utter perfection. But, unlike many, he doesn't beat a dead horse into glue. He posts the pinnacle tastefully and moves on. From thet tonal manipulations of color to the refinement of sharpening and the wonder of blur, Rick directs the eye. Then keeps it. Maybe the guy's compiling an eye collection. I don't know. Exchanging techniques and bouncing ideas bewteen himself and friend, photographer-extraordianaire James Betts, Rick and James use each other's eyes.as creative gauges to produce jaw-droppingly amazing works.. With a wealth of background in advertising, we can see that Rick is nowhere near finished. This phase is an obvious culmination of many creative years. I, for one, am tired of trying to keep up. Unlike Mr. Kidd, I need sleep. (Sleep: that diabolical animal designed with the intent of keeping us following and lagging behind insomniacal geniuses who don't.)
