First I have to say that photography runs in the family. When I was growing up in Montreal my father had a dark room in the basement of our house where I was introduced to B&W film processing and printing. My father was also an avid 35mm slide format shooter.
Back in the mid '80 I bought my very first 35 mm film, single-lens reflex (SLR) camera; a Nikon FG fitted with a Nikon Series E 50mm/f1.8 classic lens, and a very inexpensive and slow 100-300mm f/5.6 zoom lens, which I used for several years.
My sister studied photography in college and she is the one with all the fancy equipment such as an Hasselblad 2 1/4 format camera.
Fast forward to 2003 when I bought my first digital camera; a Canon PowerShot S400. In the following years I kept upgrading to newer PowerShot models.
Then came a trip to Maui and the Big Island around Memorial Day of 2006. During this trip I was trying to capture images of stunning landscapes and action pictures such as surfers. Unfortunately my pictures did not communicate and reflect what I was "seeing".
Following this trip I decided to equip myself with a D-SLR camera and lenses so I could capture and share my visions of the world the way I envision the final result in my mind's eye.
