I was first drawn to Ran's photos several years ago. At first, it was difficult to pinpoint why. I soon realized that the images elicited feelings or conjured up emotions. Creating an artistic urbex cinematography, Ran often uses wide apertures that help the viewer sense the apocalyptic chilling atmosphere of a place. That mood is what sets the shots apart from so many others. If it's not wide aperture, it's certainly amazing light or excellent framing. The brilliance is that it is interwoven into the image so effortlessly, it is so deftly done, that if flows immediately into the image and lingers long after. Ran is a traveler in search of urban detail and shows poetry in the process. Ran creates an unlikely theatre because what she sees and records is a forgotten world others miss.
