I (Phil Melling) have been taking photos in Western Australia since 1977, (hence the amount of photos from W.A. ). We have been able to venture to other states and various albums show those travels often with my family or epic trips like one with son David through NSW into Queensland and in late September/ early October 2016 with one of my son's Josh where we went from Goulburn in Southern N.S.W. through to Bowen in Queensland (1100kms north of Brisbane). More recently (late 2025) Amanda, my wife and I did a mega three month road trip from Western Australia, into South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania (via the ferry from Geelong to Devonport). The rail scene is forever changing but so are the communities touched by the railway and not only have railways closed but whole town sites have disappeared. I have tried to capture as much as I can via photography and some videos on these pages.
I hope my photos are of interest and that they give a bit of a snap shot into the history of the railways in Western Australia and around Australia. I have inherited both Joe Moir and Jim Bisdee photo collections, both my long time mates who have sadly passed away. This site is using a combination of my, Jim & Joe's photos, from the 1970's through to the current day. Regards Phil.
