Took my first railway photograph in 1958 with a Kodak box camera. Got a Voigtlander 120 folding camera in 1961 but it was not very good. Acquired a Periflex III camera with a 45mm/f1.9 lens at Christmas 1963, continuing to photograh railways, in particular the run down of steam to 1968.

I then turned to motor racing and rallying photography, eventually getting Press acreditation with Rally Sport Magazine. Between 1976 and 1982 I built and rallied a 1293cc Mini Cooper S. I got my first Nikon camera in 1977 and have stayed with the brand ever since. My railway photography continued during this period but at a reduced rate. It picked up more from 1985 and I went digital in 2006.

Born and lived in North Cheshire but moved to Edinburgh with my job in 1985. Retired in 2004.
