I'm an amateur photographer (if you can even call me that) who just got his first "real" camera. I've actually never owned any camera other than a 110 film cartridge camera. Here is a list of my equipment:

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM

Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM

Canon TC-80N3 Timer Remote

SanDisk Ultra III 4.0 GB Compact Flash Card

SanDisk Ultra III 16.0 GB Compact Flash Card

72mm UV Haze Filter, Canon

77mm UV Haze Filter, Canon

77mm Circular Polarizer, Canon

58mm UV Filter, Hoya

77mm UV Haze Filter, Quantaray

Dolica Tripod and Monopod

AGL3080 GPS Data Logger

Duracell Mobile Charger CEF23DX4N

Giotto's Rocket-Air AA1900

I got the Dolica ST-510 Tripod and Dolica ST-1100 Monopod in the STC-100 kit which was free from Newegg with my 40D. The tripod holds the 40D with kit lens (28mm-135mm) just fine. I haven't tried it with a heavy lens. I finally used the tripod for some traffic trail and star trail photography. I've had much more success with the traffic trails. I have yet to use the monopod for real photographic purposes.

The logger is fun. The software is pretty lame since it can't plot tracks. It also creates new files instead of tagging your existing ones and doesn't read all of the Canon EXIF data properly from the original file so some information is mangled in the new file. However, it gets the job done as you can see from my Flickr map.

The Duracell Mobile Charger is for the GPS logger. After a 10-day-trip to Japan that started with a 16-pack of fresh Alkaline AAA's, I only returned with 4 fresh batteries and the three in the tracker. It uses three AAA batteries and only lasts for about 15 hours, so getting rechargeable batteries made sense. I opted for the mobile charger because it's a 2-hour charger (for AAA's, 4-6 for the AA's); is relatively cheap compared to the 15-minute charger; lets me reuse the rechargeable batteries more times than the 15-minute charger; has independent charging for each battery (so I can mix and match batteries at different charges and most importantly, charge 3 at a time); has a car adapter so I can freely use my tracker for long road trips; can be used to power/charge a USB device; and it came with 2 AAA (and 2 AA) rechargeables so an extra order of 4 AAA's gave me 6 total, which was perfect for my logger because I could always have a fresh replacement available. Also, the the fact that it came with the two AAA batteries made-up for the price difference between the one with the car adapter and the model that did not.

It's sad that I wrote more about the battery charger than myself, but there it is. It's more interesting than I am anyway. Hopefully, my photographs are more interesting than that.

I just added the TC-80N3 to my kit. So far, it has been used for tripod mounted long exposures of tail lights trails and a feeble attempt at producing star trails. I think that it will be very useful for star trails. A single 10 minute exposure starts to heat up the sensor too much so it produces a noticeable amount of noise. 10 minutes seems to be way too short for star trails so obviously a longer single exposure will be worse. The timer remote lets you specify exposure and intervals so you can let the sensor cool off between exposures.
