I consider it a personal challenge to eventually match—and with fortune, surpass—his skill. His expert use of lighting, with particular emphasis on the subtly of shadow, is unparalleled among non-full time, non-professional photographers. The models he chooses for his figure studies are exemplary male forms with the smoothest curves, who appear from nowhere out of the shadows and return to nowhere when Rafael has finished with them. I can only hope someday to produce photos with lighting as outstanding as Rafael's.
