50 year old family man with 2 young boys. Artistic, not very sporty any more but I try!. I work as a special needs mentor, registered with Reed agency and work all over the North West.
Working with special needs has taken away my creative skill. Although I use my art as a universal language with theses kids, I have not spent time, devoting myself to unlock the inner soul for years. After discovering flickr, I have a sense of beleif that I must recapture that passion. I have been inspired by all the wonderful art, photos and creative ability on here.
Some of my acrylics have taken me back to my roots, as a young teen, trying to cope with change. Looking back has helped me to move forward. An inner creative stirring has occurred deep within. As I sit by the banks of the river, remembering the days of fishing, swimming, rope swings and gangs of like minded boys where I grew up, I feel strength to motivate my own kids. If I can recapture that change, I will help them to move on also.
The scenery is all different now. But the river still flows-no matter what obstacles are in its way. Strange plants dominate the banks. Giant, Japanese knot weed, bindweed, those smelly plants that fling out seeds if you squeeze them. Young saplings that have thrived because of natures changes. Growing in a tangled mass to hide once well worn footpaths. Nature moves on. And so does creative instincts.
My work is totally different now from just 10 years ago. I use different mediums now, compared to the ones I felt very comfortable with. Its like having the confidence to move forward, try something new. My black & white ink drawings have a similar, nostalgic feeling. I could re-create them in colour, or even bigger. But you don't need to stay still. You go with the flow. Although I went back to my playground, felt the sense of loss of those happy-go-lucky-days, I have used my new found freedom of impulse, to paint with the heart once again.
All though I hold the work dear to my heart, all of it is for sale. Once I build up a big enough portfolio, I can lower my prices so mind your head!.
