“Trees are poems the earth writes upon the sky, We fell them down and turn them into paper, That we may record our emptiness.” - Khalil Gibran, Lebanese-American writer, poet and visual artist.
Amateur photographer, mostly use a Nikon D5600 DSLR with a Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens and a Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED lens, and sometimes with an iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro and minimal editing to maintain the original look and feel of urban nature.
Mostly capturing what's left of Chicago's natural environment before it's all cruelly overdeveloped as a scapegoat for progress, while ignoring climate change, green jobs, environmental justice, conservation, sustainability, animals, birds, insects, trees, science, and data. There’s less than 0.01% of Illinois’ original prairie left. And prairies are one of the most endangered ecosystems on earth. The same is true of the oak savanna, which was once one of the most common vegetation types in the Midwest and is highly endangered. Intact oak savannas are now one of the rarest plant communities on earth. We are living during a crisis of mass species extinction, a process that is not reversible and these plants, insects and animals will be gone forever. Now is the time for humanity to protect what's left.
“However, I continue to try and I continue, indefatigably, to reach out. There’s no way I can single-handedly save the world or, perhaps, even make a perceptible difference - but how ashamed I would be to let a day pass without making one more effort.”
-Isaac Asimov
