Muslims have settled in Hillingdon, especially the South of the Borough in substantial numbers, and their population is growing at a rapid rate. There has been a significant rise in the number of Muslims of all backgrounds settling in the borough from within the United Kingdom and the European Continent, especially from the Netherlands and Scandinavia.Alhamdulillah, Muslims in the area have increased and the number is continuing to rise. Muslims from all over the world are settling in Hayes and enriching our community with a variety of backgrounds, cultures and languages. Together we managed to acquire our current premises, Unit C Golden Crescent, in December 2006. It started operating fully in February 2008. We currently host Qur'an and Islamic classes for children and adults, regular seminars and events.
Our after school Islamic classes for children have been a runaway success, with scores of children currently on the waiting list to join and learn about Islam.
The existing facilities were not able to handle the exponential increase of the Muslim community and their needs. Having a larger community meant there was a need for more facilities and services, such as more prayer space, a Madrasah (Supplementary School) for the children, as well as a place for the adults to come together to socialise and learn.
In December 2006, a light industrial building at Unit C, Golden Crescent, Hayes, was leased and eventually bought through fundraising by the members of the community and they are now sustaining the project by yearly contributions and fundraising. The property was derelict and needed a lot of work. It was renovated and converted into a centre for the Muslim community. The centre started operating fully in February 2008. The purpose behind Quba centre is to provide services needed by the community and to provide a platform on which to reach out to other communities.
Since the establishment of the Quba Islamic and Education Centre, the community has come together to pool our shared resources. A distinct benefit of this is the bringing together of Muslim professionals of various backgrounds who have been able to help steer the centre forward. This would have been impossible without Quba centre.
Unfortunately due to our growing community and lack of space, we are unable to cater for all attendees and needs of the community. We have recently launched our campaign to refurbish Quba and take our community services to the next level.
