"Tell them, dear, that if eyes were made for seeing, then Beauty is its own excuse for being." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Based in Alexandria, Virginia, my images celebrate live performance, cultural diversity, the natural world and the people around us. My photography career began in the 1980s with a trusty Pentax K-1000 making images on film of the people and environment of rural Honduras. Eventually graduating to more sophisticated equipment, I received advanced training in darkroom printing techniques and became well-versed in the world of print and online publishing. Today, I shoot live music performance, the natural world around us and the broad range of cultures in it, and unique, striking portraiture. A photographer’s calling goes well beyond capturing light through a lens onto film or as pixels on a chip. I strive to create relationships; between camera and subject, image and audience, client and photographer. Whether shooting analog or digital, my appreciation for the craft of “writing with light” drives a desire to capture beauty in all its forms.
