Co-Founder and Executive Director at Smarthistory.org—I am an art historian, so unsurprisingly I shoot mostly art and architecture. My photos are used in hundreds of university classrooms and so come with a non-commercial Creative Commons license. I am astonished and gratified that my work has been viewed more than 60 million times on Flickr.

In the late 1960s I had a Poloroid Swinger (I still remember the smell as the print came to life), then In 1972 I purchased my first SLR (a used Kowa) and learned how to develop film and print. Photography seemed like magic, it still does.
