I'm an amateur photographer. I love learning about photography and find Flickr an inspiring place to visit. I'll take pictures of just about anything that catches my interest. I enjoy being in the outdoors and find that nature photography helps me become more aware of my surroundings and more engaged in the moment.

 

For me the challenge of photography is to try to capture in just two visual dimensions something about the character and texture of the overall experience or event being photographed. The thrill comes when I accomplish that or when I see someone else do it.

 

I'm in the slow and expensive process of building my tool kit. My Nikon D80 was my first DSLR. I use the kit 18 - 135 mm lens that came with the camera, a couple of cheap but so far adequate Quantaray circular polarizer and ND 4 filters. Someday soon I want a wide-angel prime with at least f1.8 aperture. Eventually I'd like to try using Photoshop for curves, filters, better color control and to try HDR. I'd also like to try using graduated filters, as well. If I am ever able to overcome my fear of using film, I'd love to try shooting with a Holga, having been inspired by Natural Light Seeker's use of the toy camera.
