The James Prendergast Library in Jamestown, NY, was a gift to the city from Alexander Prendergast, the city founder's son and his wife, Mary, who commissioned the building in memory of their son, James Prendergast. The library opened December 1, 1891 and contained 8,666 volumes.

 

Today the library has over 344,000 volumes! We not only have books on every subject, but also audiobooks, databases, DVD & VHS films, music CDs, magazines, microfilm, newspapers, public Internet computers, programs for all ages, literacy classes and much, much more for people of all ages.
