Let me introduce myself, my given name is Praveen born in “God’s Own Country” Kerala, India. I am known to most ppl by the name Tomy, (my dads name) I have been called Tomy from my school days and I never changed it ever since. My name on the world wide would be “praveenmt”. Some of my friends get confused with my name, so I thought I should give the full history.

I started taking picts from my childhood. I still remember the first camera my dad had, it was a National’s pencil box looking film camera. It was called the 110 pocket camera with built in electronic flash (National was the brand name)

During the 80’s my dad’s younger brother was into photography in a big way, he used to have the full camera gear with all the big lenses and so on during those days, I always wanted to be like him in his professionalism and used to love his candid picts.

At a later stage my dad got a Yashika auto focus camera that I started taking picts with, I should say that I have taken tons of picts with it, most of them were family picts. One of the very classy picts I took with it was of my grandparents, when I was in the 5th or 6th grade, the picture captured my parents and families attention, this picts was blown up and framed at my grandparents family home which was a great boost to my confidence and an honor that I still cherish.

At a later stage my dad was presented by another Yashika camera by an uncle of ours. I really hammered the camera big time. Picts from my whole tennis career as well as my engineering college life was captured during the 90’s.

By the introduction of scanners in India in the late 90’s I was fortunate enough to own one, thanks to my parents. During one of my breaks after my engineering college, I took the opportunity to scan the 100’s of picts I had taken during my college days, this allowed me to share it with my old friends who are all around the world now. Memories that we can never forget.

In the later half of 1999, I moved to Sydney, to do my higher studies. With tones of picture opportunities in Sydney I was struggling for the first few months as I did not have a camera to capture the great city and activities. Also the following year was the Sydney Olympics. I worked hard and got myself a Nikon F70, my first SLR camera. (dream come true) I cant image the number of picts I have taken with my F70. I used to buy those 3 pack Fuji films for AUD$10. I later switched to Fujicolor REALA film that one of the photo developing shop asked me to try. This film made a huge impact on the picts I took from then on. Some of those picts can be seen in my Flickr stream.

Later in 2002 I got my hands on my first digital camera and it was a Nikon Coolpix 5700, I still remember spending a fortune for the new toy and that too bought it on a 2 year interest free package. Most of my earlier picts that I have uploaded on flickr are captured using the Coolpix camera. I also finally ended up taking a 2 day photo course, just to learn the basics. I would love to take more classes to learn more. As you know with photography, you never finish learning.

In 2006 I got myself my first DSLR a Nikon D70s, to date I have taken around 32,500 picts on that toy of mine. Some of the fields of photography that I have got interested in are Portraits (family, kids, models), baby picts, flowers, Macro and so on.

As you can image I am the photographer around my friends and family for all functions, I just love capturing memorable moments. I would like to Thank my family and friends for the great support they give me every day.

In June 2008, my wife organized a big 30th b’day party for me and as a surprise gift my family and friends gifted me my dream toy a D300 (big thanks to my wife Rosie for organizing my surprise dream toy). It is one of the best thing that has happened to me to date (apart from my family and friends of course).

Later in 2008 myself and my wife joined hands to open up a home studio “Memories Studio Photography” For more details on the studio please visit our blog : memoriesstudio.blogspot.com/
