Retired Journalist. Retired as News Editor for the Press Trust of India August 2014. For me the greatest happiness now is to take photographs. Looking through the view finder of the camera gives me the greatest pleasure.

 

With limited mobility, my favourite subjects are cats. There are a large number of cats at home.

 

I find the play of light and shadow interesting.

 

I live in Kolkata which was earlier known as Calcutta. There are quite a few places of historical interest. Some are offbounds for photography. Those which are not I have tried to photograph, but I can't say that I have captured them all with my camera.

 

My favourite spot in Princep Ghat on the bank of the Hooghly river which is the western boundary of the metropolis. I have photographed the boats, the river and the Vidyasagar bridge at night a number of times. The Princep Memorial also looks good when the lights come on.

 

The other place I have photographed a few times is the Victoria Memorial Hall.

 

The temple to the Goddess Kali at Dakshineswar looks good at night. Though photography is not allowed there, I was able to get permission to take a few photos.

 

There a very great number of churches in the city which are over a 100 years old. The church nearest to my home, which falls in its parish, is St James'. I have photographed both the inside and outside when it is decorated with lights at Christmas.

 

My other interest, which I neglect quite offten, is photoshop. I have been using it for a long time. I post tutorials on my blogs:

I had a Canon SX 120 IS, then I bought a Canon 550D with a Canon 18-135 lens. I have also a second hand Canon 70-210 USM lens. I have a Sigma 70-300 lens also a Canon 50 mm. I now have a Canon 7D and a variety of lenses.

 

I am a widower. My wife died on January 25, 2012. I have two grown up daughters.
