Taken pictures is one of my old hobbies. I started 1979 with a Canon A1 (Film) and the fever got me. As the computer age took place I started with a 1meg pixel Kodak camera but I was never happy with the results (I took slides before) and today ...
... Update February 2025
I use the Sony A1 I, A9 I, and CR7 I mainly for my pictures.
Sold almost all my Canon EF euipment only kept some exceptional glass hich I use ith the Sigma Adapter on the Sonys here focusing speed is not important.
50Mpix, focusing speed, no blackout, high frame rates are pretty impressive.
Overall I liked the Canon colors, menues and service better and really miss the crop capabilities of the Canon 5DSR....but Sony is more innovative. You can't have all I guess.
... Update June 2021
In 2020 I made the switch to a Sony A7R4 and compared the results with my Canon 5DSR. The speed, creativity and the autofocus speed made it very easy. Canon is out. My old white glass was not comparable with the new G/GM glass. I'm still not a fan of Sony's menu but as more I work with it...it's getting better every day.
... Update: August 2010
Now I have the Nex7 and I'm a little disappointed too, even it has the same sensor size as 7D the picture quality is more grainy and it doesn't look so good. I put my L glass on the unit, but it is hard to manual focus on an LCD viewfinder.
Sony also lacks to provide an firmware update. Sony lenses are fairly expensive and lower side quality plastic lenses. I still don't give up that canon might bring a mirrorless quality camera one day...
The only good thing about the sony...is a nice travel camera and the pics are better than point and shoot. Some nice software features like handheld night.
April 2009: ... only the 5D Mark III gives me the slide feeling back. But mostly I shoot with 7D because it is very fast. (My airplane moon pictures need fast continuous shooting)

Recently I'm getting upset with Canon and I guess have to go for a Sony Nex-7. Can't wait to hammer my good Canon glass on a Sony ;). It's amazing to see that you can use any glass on a Sony.
Maybe Ed will create some great adapter rings. look for edmikaadapters! This guy rocks.
