Patrick F. Gypen born in Belgium, Keerbergen 21 may 1955.

1965

Young Patrick would like to become a pilot or a singer in a rockband.

1975

Trained as a typographer, reprographer, photographer typo/screen/offsetprinter and graphic designer he spins records as a popular D.J. in Antwerp dance clubs to make a living. Deejaying made him famous and brought him as a young man in "Studio 54" in New York, the "Cave Du Roi" in Saint Tropez and "Le Palace" in Paris. He played all top Belgian clubs and resided in Antwerp. Often he traveled to buy his music in Londen, Parijs, Los Angeles and New York. On these trips he visited the trendy spots and art galeries. In New York he met Andy Warhol and was invited to his “Factory”. Even tough Andy and his friends had different interests in Gypen, after the visit his “Popsessed” obsession was born.

1985

Gypen starts a graphic design company "Grafiek•Patrick" and pioneers with the Apple Macintosch SE and the first PostSript. He designs mainly recordcovers. The Belgian hit “C In China” and “Pump Up The Jam” by Technotronics amongs others and many other record sleeves were designed by him. "Grafiek•Patrick" evolves quickly into a bigger company "Image Building". Later "iMotion", "The Color Revolution" and "The Antwerp Brainworks C°" are started and grow into local and/or international business sucsesses.

1995

Gypen is consulted by the R&D and marketing divisions of Apple Computer, Adobe and Agfa-Gevaert (GS). Declared “Visionary” he travels around the world doing consultancy jobs and business analyses. Gypen develops a software solution for Task, Job, Product and Project Management in the graphic industry. The CRM tool concept and demo application “Delano” is sold to Agfa-Gevaert thanks to Quebecor World and his friends John Harrison and Jean-François Cuillerier.

2005

Patrick F. Gypen steps out of the commercial world.

As a birthday present he paints the portrait of his oldest daughter. The first of a series of portraits and paintings he made ever since.

Sindsdien werkt Patrick F. Gypen als verbeten aan het neerzetten van de beelden die onuitwisbaar in zijn hersens gegrift staan. De beelden die het sterkst hun vorm bewaren uit de miljarden beelden die ooit zijn netvlies hebben beroerd. De beelden en vormen die voor hem banden hebben met de voor hem sterkste emoties. Beelden van mensen en dingen die in zijn leven en dat van de toeschouwers, al dan niet tijdgenoten, een rol hebben gespeeld, mee hun leven hebben bepaald.

De cirkel is rond, Gypen doet op z’n vijftigste weer waar hij zijn hele jeugd mee bezig was: tekenen. Enkel is het forum nu groter, worden er mensen blij van de sobere vectorieële tekeningen waarin met slechts enkele kleuren een droombeeld wordt opgewekt wat ergens diep vanbinnen en achteraan in ons geheugen een emotie oproept.
