Popbangcolour came into being in 2008 by artist Ian Cook. Cook creates his enormous paintings of cars (autodrawings) using radio controlled cars, toy car wheels and tyres. The technique started after a chance comment by his then girlfriend who bought him a radio controlled car and told him not to get paint on it! His hashtag #paintwithcars perfectly sums up what he does. Popbangcolour can regularly be seen doing his thing in his mobile studio at motor race circuits, car and bike events or exhibitions around the UK and around the world or in his studio at Fargo Village, Coventry, UK. Typically his pieces are 2.5m x 1.5m using acrylic paint and acrylic ink on Fabriano 200 gram paper or stretched canvas on board. His most notable pieces include an enormous portrait of Lewis Hamilton (12m x 8m) created in London, October 2008, an even bigger Guinness World Record in March 2015 (World's largest glow-in-the-dark painting, 207 sq. m) and the Parc fermé artwork for the F1 at the Autodromo di Monza, Milan, September 2017.
