PLANE is one of four projects funded through the ICT Innovation Fund (ICTIF) to support pre-service teachers, in-service teachers and school leader to develop the skills, knowledge and experience to become confident in embedding ICT into teaching and encouraging students to use ICT productively for their learning.

PLANE will be a professional learning world for educators where they can: develop their skills; connect with others; and take part in formal structured learning that is accredited or informal learning. It will provide in-time anywhere anytime professional learning opportunities through two integrated environments; a rich multi-media environment and a 21st century immersive learning environment – a “digital virtual world” - for experiential game-based learning, problem based simulation learning, collaboration and communication across educational sectors.

The PLANE domain plane.edu.au currently hosts the PLANEjourney blog which will document the project as it develops and includes scenarios of how teachers will use PLANE. This URL will become the PLANE entrance.

PLANE will meet the in time, anywhere, anytime, needs of educators so when a learning need emerges, the pre-service or in-service teacher or leader will log into the “Entrance” and have the option of taking an online self-evaluation to be directed to relevant learning experiences or go direct to a searchable menu/timetable of learning experiences. The relevant experience will be hosted either the rich multimedia or a virtual world environments to be developed for the project, depending on the nature of the learning. It may be synchronous or asynchronous or a mixture of both.
