I have been passionate about photography for 40 years. I used to have several film SLRs, including Minolta and Canon models, and I started using digital cameras in 2003. My first purchase was a Pentax Optio 550, which stopped working after a few years.

I also had a Canon G10 and a Lumia 1020 mobile phone with a 41 MP ZEISS lens. Unfortunately, both of these cameras crashed fatally in 2017. I recently bought a Pentax Optio 550 on eBay. Using it makes me feel nostalgic, and I'm amazed at how well this old piece of technology still works. I also got my hands on a G11, but I didn't enjoy using it very much.

My current big babies are a Sony a57 and an a68. I also recently bought an a6000, which I prefer for travelling light. They are all far from perfect, but I enjoy using the Sonys despite their individual shortcomings. The more serious problem is that I rarely find enough time to get out and about to use my cameras.

Unexpectedly, I increasingly often find that I'm too lazy to use one of my proper cameras nowadays and end up shooting with my phone instead. For some time that was a Huawei P30 Pro, featuring a Leica 'Quad Camera'. The telephoto lens (equivalent to 135mm) was quite impressive and fun to use, but it required lots of light. Currently I'm shooting with an Honor Magic5 Pro. I enjoy the development of photo technology in smartphones.

OK, I must go and take some more pictures.

Expect the purely eclectic.
