I recently graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art (Baltimore, MD) Magna Cum Laude with my Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts and a minor in Art Education. I'm currently working on my Master of Arts in Teaching.
I've always had a love of nature, trees in particular. Most of my art since 2003 has utilized branches from trees around the Baltimore area. In 2005, I began looking deeper into the structure of trees, examining the cell structure of over 45 trees within the neighborhoods of Bolton Hill and Mount Washington. I collected samples and photographed over ninety varieties of trees in those neighborhoods, documenting the date, and location. I then compiled this information into a map to allow viewers to better explore the broad array of nature around them.
Probably the thing I am most proud of in this work is making others aware of the variety that often gets overlooked in nature. A tree is not "just a tree".
