Photography is my hobby, albeit a hobby with a checkered history. As a teenager and young student, I was passionate about photography, making b&w prints in my own little lab. This phase came to an abrupt end when my beloved Canon AE1 was accidentally submerged in a cold Scottish river. Then, after a few years of abstinence, which probably did my PhD some good, photography revived with much enthusiasm with the purchase of a Leica RE. At some point, however, professional and private matters inevitably pushed themselves to the fore and before I knew it, analog photography was over. Photos were suddenly taken in masses and at every suitable or unsuitable opportunity with the cell phone. With time, the dissatisfaction with this form of snapping grew and I was looking for a compact travel camera. That is how I ended up with the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III in 2019. I was surprised to discover that it also brought back the fun of photography almost instantly. Nevertheless, the new possibilities and challenges of digital photography caused even greater amazement. At the end of 2020, I switched to the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III, which was a big step forward. Finally, my most recent update is the OM-1 Mark II, which I bought in mid-2024. So why MFT? With age, one increasingly appreciates light and compact equipment and MFT offers this without sacrificing quality. Photographically, however, I personally still see myself on a very long road of progression. But this is part of the joy, since to live means to learn and to have goals. In addition, photography brings a much more conscious perception of what is around you, which is a great gain in itself, even if no photo is taken or the attempt fails. In short, photography is good for me (and you)!
