My name is Paul Simpson, I am 38 years old and currently reside in Uniontown, OHio - which is a suburb of Akron, Ohio. I have been active in the arts throughout the majority of my life, but I really started to concentrate on the art of Photography when I was 17 years old (through a highschool photography class.) I went on to study Fine Art Photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and graduated from Columbia College in Chicago, Illinois. Currently I am just continuing to build my portfolio as well as beginning to step out into the world of freelance photography/art. I also run an interactive facebook page for photographers (The Photography Co-op) where topic related exhibits are executed, viewed and critiqued by participating photographers. Outside of my photography I am very active in the music world (band/orchestra), the animals I share my life with, gardening and my family.

What I tend to photograph in my work are the people, places and things that immediately impact my surroundings and daily life. I do specialize within portraiture but recently I have "spread my wings" into photographing what I like to do outside of photography and artmaking such as gardening, family and music. I very much enjoy the process of planting a seed, watching it grow, nurturing it into a flower/plant or vegetable and then photographing it. I think recently in my work-I am very much about the background or the process of whatever I am shooting-I really enjoy knowing a "story line" to whatever I am shooting even if it isn't always apparent.

I have twenty years experience in photographing, developing

and printing photography. I have extensive working knowledge

of black and white and color development processes within a darkroom environment as well as within different photo editing software. I am very knowledgeable and proficient with all types of alternative and natural lighting set-ups as well as studio shooting. I photograph using 35mm format, medium format, large format (4x5), polaroid, and pinhole cameras. Digitally I use a Nikon D90 and a Canon 7D as well as I edit within Photoshop and Picassa 3.

Favorite Influences: Cindy Sherman, Sally Mann, Laurie Anderson, Georgie O'Keeffe, Frida Kahlo, Yo-Yo Ma, Man-Ray, Lady Gaga, Robert Mapplethorpe, David Lynch, The Starn Brothers, Darren Aronofsky, Mark Rothko, Ansel Adams and Herb Ritts.
