When I was a kid my folks were big into hiking, camping and birdwatching. Sometime around age ten I had this moment of inspiration; looking at stuff through binoculars was cool, but if I had a camera I could share what I saw with everyone else. So I bought a plastic toy camera at a yard sale and that's where my photography journey began.
I joined Flickr in 2008, the same year I entered my photojournalism career. I worked for two newspapers in my home state of North Carolina before landing a job at the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. With the cost of living catching up to me, in 2020 I made the difficult choice to leave the newspaper business.
After taking a few years off, my inspiration has returned stronger than ever, and I'm excited to spend more time exploring my new home state of California. I don't think I'll ever go back to a full-time newspaper job, but I wouldn't mind finding some freelance PJ work now and then.

I'm a photojournalist first and foremost. I also don't care for faking things. All of my photojournalism work (news, sports, features and editorial portraits) as well as my nature photography adheres to the editing ethics of photojournalism. When I do multiple exposures or composites I label them as such.
