Geologist, photographer and nature lover.
I've been interested in photography since my teens. I started as many did back then with a Kodak instamatic. It wasn't the best camera in the world and many of my photos were either out of focus, poorly exposed, or just plain bad! Having said that, I was hooked. I learnt my trade with both black and white and colour film, which I eventually processed myself rather than having to endure the long wait! I converted to digital when my last film camera (Canon EOS 50E) died and bought an EOS 10D. I love the freedom digital photography allows. No more being limited to 36 image rolls and no more restrictions on what ISO film to put in. Of course the down side is the ease which we can take hundreds if not thousands of photos- and then have to spend hours editing them! I enjoy looking at other people's photos and I'm amazed at the quality and creativity of the images produced by "amateur" and "hobbyist" photographers, whether they are captured with expensive DSLRs or smart phones. You don't need to be a professional to produce professional results.
I love taking photographs of wildlife and landscapes, but will have a go at most things. I'm not a good people photographer though- too self conscious and always think "I wouldn't want someone to stick a camera in my face"
