An enthusiastic amateur photographer ever since my first camera at the age of 14: a Boots 110 Teleflash point & shoot with a fixed-focal-length & fixed-focus lens, which used the tiny 110-format film. Somehow I put up with the grainy photos from that little camera for 4 years until I got an ancient, second-hand, Soviet brand Zenit-E 35mm SLR. That Zenit-E seemed to weigh about a tonne but had vastly better optics and basic controls which helped me produce better pictures; plus it allowed me to start learning how focus, exposure and framing can creatively affect a photograph. Many years & cameras later (listed below), I'm currently using a Nikon D5600 SLR, bought new in 2018, plus a second-hand Panasonic TZ100 compact bought in 2019. They both seem like incredibly good cameras but you'll have to decide whether I'm any good at using them (or my past cameras) to create interesting pictures. :-)
SLR ownership log: since my days with the Zenit-E, I've owned a Zenit TTL (1988, second-hand); Pentax P30 (1989); Canon EOS Elan-IIe (1996); Canon EOS 300V (2005); Nikon D70 (2007, second-hand); Nikon D5600 (2018).
I've also always owned a compact/point-and-shoot camera for the times when I don't want to (or cannot) carry an SLR: Minolta AF-EII (1987); Minolta Freedom Zoom Explorer (1997, aka. Riva Zoom 70W); Nikon CoolPix 990 (2000, my first digital camera!); Casio Exilim EX-Z3 (2003); Casio Exilim EX-Z120 (2006); Panasonic LZ8 (2008); Sony W110 (2008); Canon PowerShot S110 (2013); Panasonic TZ100 (2019, second-hand). The Panasonic TZ100 is an expensive but amazingly good & capable compact camera, however be sure to use RAW format to get the sharpest photos from it.
