My name is Peter Kilminster and I was born at the beginning of the Second World War in Birmingham, which is situated in the middle part of England (UK). I was 5 years old when the war ended and, at this time, I moved to Toronto in Canada where I stayed until I was 19. In 1964 I returned to Birmingham where I began studying at the Birmingham College of Art. It was here that my keen interest in photography began to blossom. To make ends meet, I took up part time employment with a local photographer learning the art of wedding photography and spending a great deal of time in the darkroom.

My very first camera was a Nikon F series that I used for a few years but decided to upgrade to a medium format camera in the early 1970’s. There wasn't a great deal of choice back then and most people were using either a Yashica, Hasselblad or Mamiya. I decided to go for the Mamiya C330.

In the mid 1970’s, I moved, to Exeter in the West Country (UK) to pursue my career until 2004 when I took early retirement. Now I was able to devote much more time to my hobby and decided to enrol at the Exeter College to take a City & Guilds course in photography. I became an active member of the Exmouth Photo Group in 2005 and, in 2006, returned to Exeter College to take a course for Photoshop 7. I started to develop a desire to share my photographs with other people and thought it would be a good idea to develop my own web site for this purpose. I had no real experience of this so I went back again to college towards the end of 2007, this time to study a course in Dreamweaver.

At the present time, I am developing a keen interest in audio visual slide shows, as another means of sharing my images with others. You will find some photo galleries of my work here on my web site at www.peterk-digital.co.uk and you will also be able to download some slide shows here.

My current camera is a Canon 30D. I tend always to shoot in the RAW mode and carry out my post processing with a range of software including Photoshop CS3. My slide shows are created with the Pictures To Exe software produced by Wnsoft.

Photographs, to me, are like books; they can be either factual or fictional, with books I prefer fiction but with photographs I prefer fact. I feel that our images should record what we see and I hope that my own photo’s will show you what I actually saw. I try to keep post manipulation to a minimum but that does not mean I do not appreciate images that have been created using an image editor such as Photoshop.
