Founded in 1829, Perkins School for the Blind is the oldest school for the blind in the United States. The school's mission is to provide education and services that build productive, meaningful lives for children and adults around the world who are blind, deafblind,or visually impaired, including those with additional disabilities.
The Samuel P. Hayes Research Library , founded in 1880, is a resource for researchers, the Perkins community, professionals, parents and the public. The library offers one of the largest and most comprehensive collections on the non-medical aspects of blindness and deafblindness that is available to the public. The Perkins Archives include photographs, manuscripts, postcards, correspondence, and other rare and unique items relating to the history and education of the blind.
