PEPOEXPRESS TRAVEL & STREET PHOTOGRAPHY HANDBOOK
Follow 100% (99% is not accepted) all these rules:
1- Use a FF camera and ONLY save the raws, at maximum size, and use a fast speed card 256 MB or more. Use around 24/80mm zoom.
2- Configure dissociate focus, and focus in continuous servo, look at manual, and usually look for faces detection focus. Dissociated focus mean that you will use the rear buttom AE/AF for focus and the shotting buttom will be used ONLY for shot (not for focusing). During time you push AE/AF buttom camera will focus contiunously, and when you retire your finger focus will be remain as the last position. This cover all time of shots your focus will be 100% perfect.
3- Use for 95% of your shots the P priority (means, P as standard). At this configuration, your index finger will control the aperture(speed as the best for your shot (selecting deep of field or high speed as needed, but exposition will be always well). Obviously before shoting you need to select in each sesion the apropiate ISO. And you can use +/- button for correct the erroneus exposition of your camera.
5- Configure blast (ráfaga) position (test both speeds and select your preferred). Use it only when needed.
6- Use mainly (as estándar in camera for the standard situation of unknown next shot) 5.6 or 6.7 diaphragm. Advantages: sweet point of lens and ready for hiperfocal situation (for example, with 24mm and focus at 5m, all will be in focus from 3m to infinite whit these diafragms).
7- Never use automatic ISO.
8- As mandatory, you will use Lightroom for process your raws. Expose to sky light, dont worry, your sky will be perfect and the objects inside shadows will be discovered by Lightroom. Oposite, sky (or highlights) will be burned.
9- Repetition, use Lightroom to process your raws. Dont leave in the hands of the camera makers the processing of your shots to jpg´s. Lightroom give you the possibility of recover from shadows more than 3 ev´s.
10- Of course, look for others technics used by others photographers.
After 1 month using DISSOCIATON OF FOCUS, your brain will do all finger movements without thinking.
Now, you can go travel, shot images, and 95% of them (many of them very fast surprised shots never waited) will be at perfect focus & exposure. And a good process at Lightroom will give you the top.
Whit the best, pepoexpress.
