Hello and welcome to my galleries!

So what about me?... I am an arts-oriented photographer and teacher living in Japan. I love the beauty of the universe and do my best to capture it's essence here. As well as nature photography, I do portraiture and weddings. I find the same sources of beauty whatever I am.

As for my equipment, I'm currently using a range of digital cameras;

Canon G9 (with wide adapter and teleconverter)

Panasonic Lumix TZ7

Panasonic Lumix LX5 (with wide adapter)

Fujifilm F200 EXR (occassionally)

Nikon D3100

Nikon D300

Nikon D5100

My lenses-

(Primes)

24mm f/2.8 AF-D Nikkor

28mm f/2.8 AF-D Nikkor

35mm f/1.8 AF-S DX Nikkor

50mm f/1.4 AF-D Nikkor

50mm f/1.4 AF HSM Sigma

90mm f/2.8 Di AF Tamron

105mm f/2.4 MF Nikkor

(Zooms)

12-24mm f/4 DX Tokina

17-50mm f/2.8 Di II DX Tamron

17-55mm f/2.8 AF-S DX Nikkor

18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 VR DX Nikkor

18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 VR AF-S Nikkor

35-70mm f/2.8 AF-D Nikkor

70-300mm f/4-5.6 VR II Nikkor

80-200mm f/2.8 AF Nikon

Why so many lenses? Well, many of them are from my film days and as they weren't wide enough to be so useful on DX, I got new ones (generally the DX or VR models). Though I sold on or gave away some others, the ones I have left still give me an interesting (if not so useful) alternative and I am thinking of going FX at some point...

Despite admittedly being a bit of a gear head, I make a rule of only ever bringing 2 or 3 with me on an outing; the most used combination for me right now being-

1) A widish zoom 18-105mm VR, or 17-50mm f/2.8 Tamron (the latter much lighter than my pro-level 17-55mm, which I reserve for events and pretty much as good, except for the slower AF).

2) Something nice and bright 35mm f/1.8 DX Nikkor or 50mm f/1.4 Sigma, or perhaps just my 24mm f/2.8 Nikkor for it's useful 35mm equivalent.

3) Plus one of the 90mm f/2.8 Tamron, 70-300mm VR, or 80-200mm f/2.8 Nikkor; all depending on how far I'm carrying them.and what I'm likely to see!
