&THE ARTISTS STATEMENT:
"Ideas, unlike solid structures, do not perish. They remain immortal, immaterial and everywhere, like all Divine things. Ideas are a golden, savage landscape that we wander unaware, without a map. Be careful: in the last analysis, reality may be exactly what we think it is." -Alan Moore
Our ideas, like our soul, remain entrapped in our bodies, locked in the synapses of our brain until we harness the ability to transmute them through writing or art. As an artist, I'm driven to hold up a distorted and personalized mirror to the surrounding world, a two sided sword that slices through the excesses in my life and exposes the core essentials, uniting the organic and inorganic. What makes this world breathe? How can I reunite the severed threads that connect humans and the natural world? And, if the external world really is just a reflection of my internal world, can I change the world just by changing myself? Cycles, facets, and archetypes run through my mind like a current of electricity, propelling me to rotate gods like a solar system, each time becoming a more evolved organism, an independently closed system.
My goal is to create something I feel is complete, to show snapshots of stories I've written in dreams. Although most of the time these paintings will never live up to my visions, I find comfort that with improvement, my skill will arrive to the level where I can illustrate the mindscape with paint as clearly as I can in prose. I want to explore, to delve deeper into the rabbit hole. To plunge into the heart of time and space and harvest the essence of a theme, and in the process of creation add complexity and meaning. There's so much beauty in the world, and so much to learn from the underworld. I can only hope to give back as much as I've received.
&ABOUT THE VALKYRIE:
I'm a student living on the coast of Maine, viciously living out my last year of high school in a blur of art and missed assignments. I'm attending College of the Atlantic in the fall.
