I’ve been travelling on and off most of my life, ever since I set off in my teens to hitchhike to Istanbul from the UK. Originally I mainly collected postcards, adding the occasional photo. The earliest travel photos I have are of Australia & New Zealand, where I lived for a while. They’ve been increasing ever since, and I’ve taken to sorting them by place, giving a narrative of travels.

As well as writing walking guides to Wales I also write travel sketches in the haibun format, combining prose with the short Japanese haiku poem. The style is best exemplified by Matsuo Basho’s Narrow Road to the Deep North, his account of travels in Japan in the 17th century. I’ve linked some of mine to photos of the Sierra de Cazorla in Andalucia, Cuba and Lao. The haibun originally appeared in the haiku magazine Presence - haikupresence.org/
