I remember the first moment I became self-aware. As I was standing at the glass door to the backyard garden, I noticed that I was on one side of the glass and everything else was on the other side. I had not previously made any distinctions between myself and the stuff around me. I recall being surprised and amused. If I had had the words to speak - it would have been something like: "Well, what do ya know about that." I've been in a similar state of mind ever since.

Apparently, I was saved from educational calamity in the 3rd Grade when Mrs. Miller allowed me to finger-paint in the back of the class any time I wanted. Soon after, so I'm like 8 or 9 years old, I saw a painting of a red square in MOMA (I'm guessing it was, but in any case it made a huge impression) which is literally just a red square, and very appropriately entitled "Red Square". I have been somewhat conflicted about what Art is every since.

All of these photos are carefully selected. I'm not using Flickr as a storage device.

Photo editing is done to reveal the best photo within each shot - showing as close as possible what I actually saw. Photos are not enhanced just for the sake of it or just to make them look more colorful. There is plenty of subtle beauty in the world - not everything is or has to be striking.

Many photos are not the full size versions. Many were reduced to 750 high or 1000 wide - enough for viewing on all but large screens. Full-size versions are available for sale. Many of the older photos - before 2009 - were small to begin with - like, OMG, 640 x 480.
