If you have no public photos, or only photos of yourself with no clothes on, please do not "follow" me or fave my photos. I don't need you!
I am retired from both a U.S. Air Force flying career and an urban land use planning career. Having lived in northern California from 1987 to 2012 (as well as growing up there in the 40's and 50's) and in the East of England prior to that, I have been exposed to some really beautiful countryside.
I recently moved to northern New Mexico where the light is absolutely glorious. I have only to erect my tripod in the front garden to capture exquisite sunsets on the Sandia mountain range. I feel truly blessed and very spoiled for this. Visiting family, I do travel throughout the western half of the United States and often make time for photography in my travels, be it urban 'scapes or shorelines. Having lived abroad I am well aware that the USA holds no monopoly on beauty, natural or otherwise. I very much enjoy the work of others on this site and other venues.
The screen name Shortlens is a reference to my lens of choice: a Sigma 10-20 mm f3.5. It obviously falls short (pun intended) when targeting more distant subjects, but more significantly it forces me to get close to my subjects.
I also have a preference for smaller apertures and longer exposures, a throwback to film and 4x5 days. I invite your comments on my work, critical and otherwise. although shooting since 1955 (hey, I was only 8) and never professionally, I'm still learning, so I'd like to hear your comments. Thanks. Oh, and by the way, did I mention that I invite your comments and constructive criticism? In case I forgot to mention it, I would love to hear your comments. Comments. Comments.
